How do I pass filter values from InfoPath to a SharePoint list?

I am trying to filter a SharePoint Library using a drop down in an InfoPath form.

    • I have a SharePoint document library with clients documents in it. I have added a metadata field called "Client Name".
    • I created an InfoPath form with a drop down that I have populated with the same Client Names.
    • Then I created a web part page with and put the SharePoint list on one site and the InfoPath form on the other.

I want to be able to select  the "Company Name" from the dropdown and filter the SharePoint list.

    • I set the Connection options for the Document Library...
    • Connection --> Get Filter Values From --> InfoPath Form Web Part...
    • Where Provider = Client Name AND Consumer = Client Name.

But when I select a name from the drop down it will not filter the document library. It seems to me that the parameter is not being passed to the Document Library.

    Thanks

Is this SharePoint 2010? If so, just set the value in the QueryFields for the secondary data source first and then run the query. It will filter server-side which is faster. There are some limitations to filtering in the form for browser-based forms, which is what you have with the Webpart.

If this is SharePoint 2007, you don't have the QueryFields set and filter option, but you can use FilterOwssvr or qRules to do this. Numerous posts on this, but let us know if you can't find them.

    Good luck

I had a similar issue and it took me a while to get this to work correctly for me.

You need to create a rule on the DDL that you created with the client names.

    1. Right Click the DDL and choose Rules > Manage Rules
    2. Click New > Action
    3. Click Add > Send Data To Web Part

A box should pop up and give you a reminder that the field needs to be promoted as a pass through parameter.  I assume you have already done this or else you wouldn't have had the options in the web parts to connect them.

    Publish your form.

Others have been hung up on this next issue .  You will need to edit your InfoPath form web part and choose your form again to refresh it.  It will not know that the form has been changed automatically.

    You should be all set.

If you need a bit more detail on this kind of issue.  I wrote up a blog posting with screenshots.  You can find it on: http://www.matt-engel.com/2013/03/how-to-build-a-better-choice-filter-web-part-using-infopath-2010/

I hope this helps you out!

Hey matt.  When the page loads in the above scenario, do you get all items in the list by default or NO items by default.  I am able to use the InfoPath form web part to filter values but would like to "see all" when the page loads.  I tried unchecking the box to "Send data to connected Web Parts when page loads" but it has no effect.

    Thoughts?

I have posted a similar comment on your blog as well:)

Re: How do I pass filter values from InfoPath to a SharePoint list?

I would like to add another wrinkle to this.  Lets say I set the default value for my Infopath dropdown field to match the same value for an item in the list.  When I load the page, if the data is being sent, I should see the list filtered by the default value correct?  However, this is not happening.  I still get nothing in the list.  This makes me think there is something in the connection that is causing this.  So by default, I assume the connection exists but has not been activated so the list shows no results.

     Any thoughts?

I have similar requirement. I am creating a Text filter in InfoPath 2010 browser based form. I have a page with multiple lists. There is one column called "Stores" in each of these lists. I need this column to be filtered on. Now, I know that I could just use OOB Text Filter web part but I need to extend this filter further by pre-populating this field with store acronym from User's Profile. I hope I am clear on my requirement. I can provide more details if needed.

    Thanks
