Replicated Document URL in Repeating Table

    All,

    SharePoint 2010 and InfoPath 2010

I've a repeating table which links to a SharePoint document library.

The repeating table is filter to show the Title property of the document where you are the creator/author.

How can I turn the titles of the documents into clickable links which open up the documents?

I've attempted to follow the following -  http://sharepointvenividivici.typepad.com/sharepoint-customization/2013/01/infopath-show-links-to-documents-in-a-library-from-the-form.html .Yet I'm getting stuck following the instructions.

I don't want to add an extra column to my library and write a second workflow to add the "encodedurl" which I can then 'pull into my form" as a separate field in my repeating table as I'm going to have to replicate this mechanism on multiple sites/libraries.

Does anybody else have any ideas on how I might accomplish this?

    Thanks

    W

    Hi,

I hope you don't mind if I ask a few questions - these will help us determine the best solution for what you're trying to achieve.

    1. Does your SharePoint library store different file types - Word docs, Excel spreadsheets, or is it a form library that stores only InfoPath forms (XML files)?
    2. Are you opening files in the web/browser?
    3. Do you already have a column in your library that has the link to the file (I believe you should have this by default, could probably be the Name column). If so, please compare this column's value against what you get when you actually open that file.
    4. Does your InfoPath form store the values retrieved from this SharePoint library or are you using the secondary data source just to display the data?

Please respond to the questions above and we'll see how to proceed.

    Thanks!

    Mel,

The library contains a variety of different libraries.
Ideally the files would open in a browser
The library has a Name column which is clickable when in the library - yet a repeating table doesn't seem to see that column, yet it will see the default Title column.
The form doesn't store values retrieved from the library, I'm using a secondary data connection to display the filtered data in a repeating table.

    Thanks

Thanks for responding to my questions.

I would suggest using a hyperlink control that displays Title, and for the links, you're going to need to build them using a formula. So first, try to open a file in the browser - grab that URL and then in your InfoPath form, build a formula that would result to that URL.

For example, if I open an InfoPath form (XML) in the browser, I'd get a URL in this format: http://my.sharepoint.com/_layouts/FormServer.aspx?XmlLocation=/MyLibrary/MyForm.xml&Source=http://my.sharepoint.com/MyLibrary/Forms/AllItems.aspx&DefaultItemOpen=1

You need to find out which existing column in your library you can use to get the filename including the extension. And so your concat formula would be similar to this: concat("http://my.sharepoint.com/_layouts/FormServer.aspx?XmlLocation=/MyLibrary/", FileNameColumn, "&Source=http://my.sharepoint.com/MyLibrary/Forms/AllItems.aspx&DefaultItemOpen=1")

    Hope that helps!
