I have an InfoPath form auto populate through an external data SP list into text fields correctly but when viewing the columns in SP those fields display a number instead. I have the following settings in the drop-down properties:  “Entries”- external data source, “Value” – data source "ID", and “Display name” – field using data source.

I am assuming it is taking the row ID number and displaying. Any suggestions?

 I'm sorry, I'm confused - is the issue in your form? Or in your promoted property in SharePoint? The thing is - if you are setting the value to the ID, that's what we'd expect to see....The library you are submitting to isn't going to look up the SharePoint list value. You may want to set the dropdown to store a text value instead in this case.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear. It is in the SharePoint form library that the view shows the column name and below a number where it should display the information. 

My InfoPath form correctly populates the fields. I have a drop down field where users select a name and then it associates with location/time zone of selection. The selection populates 2 other fields (text fields) by pulling in information from list library located in SharePoint. I know the setting the value of ID is pulling in the row but why is it correctly pulling information in the form?

 What I'm trying to say is that your drop down is set to use the ID for the value of the field. Then you have promoted the field. We would expect to see the ID in the list at this point. You may want to add another field to your form that contains the field you are using for the display in for that drop down and promote that instead.

I did what you said but it still grabs the ID! Since I'm a newbie, there must be something I am doing wrong.

I created a separate text (string) field in “Main” Fields on the form. I called it “Name” with the default value pointing to the pull down field. I removed the original field when publishing and promoted “Name” and in the column it still shows a number instead of the Name.

The only way to find out if it works is by publishing the form and seeing the promoted fields in SharePoint. Is there a setting that I need to do when publishing and promoting the fields?

 Can you attach your form under the Options tab in a reply so I can see what you are doing?

In your pictures, you show that the value of the Name field is the ID from the secondary data source. That means the actual field value is going to be a number. Then you have a picture of the list with the promoted property that shows the number. If you want to see the Title instead you either need to change your drop down and your filters in your rules to use the Title field OR you can add another field to your form where you store the value of the Title for the selected item in Name and promote that instead. I'm sorry if I am being unclear - I simply can't figure out another way to explain this. 

Thanks Hillary. I wish there was another way (a bit sloppy) but it works without any problems. I ended storing the information on another field and promoting when publishing.
