Promoted columns - edit max characters displayed in SharePoint column

A promoted column is read-only.  Is it possible to edit the column and specifiy characters?  I have a rich text field that may have over 1000 characters and user would like ALL characters to show in SharePoint.

I am not sure if this is a SharePoint question or Infopath - thought I'd start here.  Using IP 2007 and SharePoint 2007.

Update: figured it out!  While publishing the form, when the columns dialog appears - select the column, click Modify.  The Select a Field or Group dialog appears.  Highlight the column (if not already highlighted), and tick "Allow users to edit data in this field by using a datasheet or properties page"

Update again: This was useful to  know but didn't solve my original problem because the promoted column (a rich text IP control) was promoted as data type single line of text to SharePoint which has a max char limit of 255 and even though i can edit column by changing to multiline now, it doesn't give me ability to allow unlimited text. However, the solution is here: http://www.networkworld.com/community/node/45332

    Final answer.

Thanks for posting the second update with the link to that technique. That's pretty cool, but just wondering if it only works for content types. I'm guessing it does since that's the way to map from an InfoPath promoted property to a site column.
