Editing an autonumbered Infopath form in a sharepoint library

    Hi,

I've scoured the interwebs looking for a solution to my problem and am yet to find one. So I'm hoping someone can help or point me in the right direction.

I've created the autogenerating number in a read only field successfully.

My only issue is, when users edit an existing form, it is generating another copy of the form with another id number, instead of overwriting the original.

If anyone could please help me with this issue I'd be very grateful.  Using Infopath 2010 and sharepoint 2010.  No code, just rules on form submit.

    Thanks

    Jayson

    Hi Tanetoa,

I'm guessing that you either have a rule or a default value that is always calculating.

To prevent it from regenerating the number, just add a condition to the rule, or convert the default value into a rule with a condition.

The condition should be if the field is blank. When it's generated, it will no longer be blank.

Make sure you don't have any other rules in your form that reset it (don't forget to check form load too).

Also, make sure your submit data connection is set up to overwrite existing.
