    Digital signing in the browser

When I attempt to sign a form in the browser (currently in test stage) I get this pop up message

You must install the Microsoft InfoPath Digital Signature Control to be able to digitally sign this form. Do you want to install the signing control?
I have googled this and found suggestions ranging from reg keys, activeX keys and pushing out software from the sharepoint side of things.

Any ideas? I have enabled signing at the infopath side of things and we have digital signatures set up here which I can use when I fill out forms with InfoPath filler

How exactly are you trying to enable signing in the browser?  Are you using built in InfoPath functionality or custom activeX controls?

Signature line control is also an option, but that is a filler only feature.

I haven't tried anything yet. This is the first time I've tried signing in a browser enabled form (have done signing of filler forms before).
I uploaded my new form to the sharepoint library and tried to sign it and got that message. I googled found all sorts of differing advice so thought I would ask here

    This is what is happening.

In my browser enabled form I click the link to sign the form and get a dialogue box telling me that a microsoft digitial signature control needs to be installed.
I click ok and say ok to the terms and conditions and IE crashes (IE8)
This is the (completly useless) error message that comes up each time... obviously it doesn't provide any clues but I wondered if any one had heard of this or experienced it themselves?

Re: Digital signing in the browser

Been a while since the post, but here is a solution for future readers.

When creating a web based infopath form with Digital Signature enabled and uploading it into a SharePoint document library users might be prompted to Install the Digital Signature Control when they click “New“ to create a new Infopath form.

When clicking “Yes“ users might be prompted with the Microsoft Software License Terms Agreement:

By clicking the checkbox next to “I Accept the terms in the License Agreement” and clicking “Next” users might experience that nothing else happens. It seems as if the License Agreement just hangs there.

This is usually due to two Active-X .DLL files that are missing on the client workstation to allow for digital signatures. The Active-X DLL files needed are (DSigCtrl.dll & DSigRes.dll). These DLL files will need to be copy and then registered in the “windows\system32” directory on the client workstations.

You can find these two .dll files packaged in two .cab files on the SharePoint server in the 12 hive TEMPLATES\LAYOUT\1033 directory. Location: “c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATES\LAYOUT\1033“

    1. Copy the two .cab files (DSigCtrl.cab & DSigRes.cab) to your local workstation.
    2. Extract the contents of the .cab files
    3. Copy the two .DLL files from the .cab files (DSigCtrl.dll & DSigRes.dll) to the local “c:\windows\system32″ directory
    4. Next open up a command prompt window (with Administrator privilages) and change directory to the “windows\system32″ directory

    5. Next run these two commands, one right after each other: regsvr32 DSigCtrl.dll and then regsvr32 DSigRes.dll
    6. If the DLL files were registered succesfully you will see the messages: “DllRegisterServer in DSigCtrl.dll succeeded” and “DllRegisterServer in DSigRes.dll succeeded“
    7. Now try to create a new Infopath form in SharePoint. Users should now not be prompted to Install the Digital Signature Control and will not be required to agree to a license agreement.

If these DLL need to be deployed to many workstations, a vbscript can be created and then deployed via GPO push.

    Kind regards,
    Larry

Re: Digital signing in the browser

    Hi Larry,

I have a question with regards to this old post.  I wanted to verify that these dll only need to be copied to the machine that is creating the InfoPath form.

I am developing a web enabled InfoPath form on our remote development server.  If I have our server admiinstrator install those dlls on that machine, I should be good to go, right?

Also, do I have to create a new form from scratch when he's done or can I just add a new section for the signature to my existing form.  It has many promoted fields.

     thanks,

    JJ
