Pasted image in Rich Text field doesn't trigger "not-empty" rule.

I have a Trouble Ticket form created for our users that contains a Rich Text field with a rule applied to display a symbol somewhere on the page when the field has been filled out, using a simple Action Rule with a condition of "Field is not empty". While this works great if a user types in the field, it does not work if an image is pasted into the field. The field is used to submit screenshots of the trouble they are experiencing, but the "not empty" rule does not trigger if only a screenshot is pasted within the field. Any idea on how to trigger this rule for a screenshot pasted within the field?

    Hi Alvin,

Nice post. I can reproduce this on my machine with InfoPath 2013. I'm guessing it's because the screenshot image exists as a sub-xml attribute value. In other words, the value of the rich text didn't change, just some child attributes were added. Can't see a way around this since it seems like default functionality.

However, I do recommend replacing it with a picture control. You can still use copy-paste to add images to a picture control, provided it is selected first. I just single-right click and hit escape since clicking causes it to launch the browse dialog.

    Thanks for posting,

Thanks for the reply, I was afraid that may be the case. I may just eliminate the rule, it was more of a convenience than a necessity. While the picture control works well, I was trying to maintain a certain size format, an since the picture control doesn't have scroll bars, the pasted image would either be too big for the overall form, or would be squished to the point of unreadability. (The end user has a tendency to copy the entire screen on large screen monitors). Thanks, Alvin
