Using multiple InfoPath Forms to submit to one list - submitting one form to a list and a library

    Hi,

I'm sure this has been answered before, but I can't find it and/or figure this out...

Here's what I'm trying to do: Create a series of quizzes for some trainees that we would like to have fill out an InfoPath form, and when they hit a submit button... (a) a copy of the InfoPath form saved to a SharePoint library and (b) a record of the answers and scores saved to a list.  The trick is, that we want to create multiple quizzes in multiple forms, but have all of the results post to the same master list.

So, basically I'm stumped because I can't figure out:

    - How to get the form to submit to a library and populate a list at the same time

    - How to publish multiple InfoPath forms to one list (not sure that's even possible)

    - How to associate the InfoPath fields to SharePoint List columns (if I don't create it as a "SharePoint List Form" - if I do that, I can't figure out how to submit to a Library!)

So, what I think I could do to solve this problem is to create one form with all of my quizzes.  Then, have a drop-down or another field at the beginning that would input the title, which would make different questions appear.  As long as I have the same amount of questions in each quiz, this should work, right?  This way I could avoid creating a Form Library, I could have all of the quizzes associated/published on the same list, and I could even avoid having to save the copy of the form as long as I'm recording their answers in the list (right?).

I was thinking there's a way I could use SharePoint Workflows to accomplish this after the form gets submitted to the library.  If that would be best, I can bring this on over to a dedicated SharePoint forum, but I'd still like to know the best practice for setting up this form.

Sorry if this seems a bit jumbled, I've been working on this a little too long and it's hard to disseminate without making this post 5x longer than it already is.  Any help is appreciated.

Let's first understand what InfoPath and SharePoint can and cannot do out of the box.

You can create a SharePoint List, add columns, then customize the list form. This list form will allow editing the data in the list and that's it. No Form Library, no SQL, no code, no custom web service. You're stuck with One form and one list.

You can create a SharePoint Form Library, design your own InfoPath form and publish it to that form library. The users would open that form, fill it out, submit, and the form library stores the XML form. The library will show, as columns, the fields that have been promoted.

This means there's no out of the box data connection to submit to a list, and you can't "publish multiple InfoPath forms to one list ".

This a pretty old article but it will at least give you an idea of what it takes to get the new, blank InfoPath form to map to a SharePoint list.

Otherwise, we use Qdabra qRules, which comes with the command SubmitToSharePointList and allows mapping InfoPath data into a SharePoint list. Here's a walkthrough for qRules v4.2.

    Good luck!

And here's an overview, more recent than the article linked above:
