I have a save button which records every time it is pressed by setting  a fields value.

How can I do the same for an attachment button. I only need to record each time an attachment is added or has been added. i.e. it's added then taken away, do I need to record that - no?

or 

each time the save button is pressed I'd only need to record the initial attachment upload.

Suppose the field you use to record is called myCounter. To record each time an attachment has been added, place the following rule on the attachment field:

* Condition: myAttachmentField is not blank

* Action: Set a field's value: myCounter = myCounter + 1
