    InfoPath File Won't Open

    I have an InfoPath File that I've been working on. I inserted a custom control that my company developed and now, when I try and open the InfoPath File, I recieve an error:

    InfoPath cannot open the following form: <file path to form> The following file is referenced in the .xsf file but is not part of the form: people and positions.xsd

    "people and positions.xsd" was the data connection (SharePoint List) that I was playing around with.

    Is there some way to remove the custom control that is causing the error in the form without actuall openining up the InfoPath Form? I have read posts about converting it to a cab file but that isn't working for me.

    Thanks in advance for any helpful input.

    Hi - you will have to convert it to a CAB file - simply change the file extension from .XSN to .CAB and then you can open the CAB and copy the files out to another folder. If your files do not display extensions for known file types, I think you can make the change in the properties window for the file.

    From there, you will be able to see all the files - InfoPath is saying that in the manifest.xsf there is a file reference to people and positions.xsd but that the file is not in the form. Open the manifest in a text editor. Find the people and positions.xsd file ref and remove it - the XML you need to remove will look something like:

                         <xsf:file name="Lead Auditors 2.xsd">

                               <xsf:fileProperties>

                                      <xsf:property name="namespace" type="string" value="http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/infopath/2003/dataFormSolution"></xsf:property>

                                      <xsf:property name="dataObject" type="string" value="Lead Auditors 2"></xsf:property>

                                      <xsf:property name="rootElement" type="string" value="myFields"></xsf:property>

                                      <xsf:property name="useOnDemandAlgorithm" type="string" value="yes"></xsf:property>

                               </xsf:fileProperties>

                         </xsf:file>

    Depending on the file type - you may have more or less properties, but you'll want to remove the entire file node. Then save and close the manifest.xsf. Now, right click manifest.xsf and select design. Hopefully, your form will open in design mode. Then you can use Save As to pack it back up as an XSN.

    Hilary,

    Thank you very much for your reply. I was aware of converting the XSN to a CAB file but I can't get it to work. I renamed my form to FormName.cab but it still shows as an xsn file. Is there somewhere else to do this at?

    Thank you,

    Marc

    Right click the file and select Properties. That will open the file properties. Under the General tab, you should be able to just change the file from .XSN to .CAB. When you close the window, you'll get a warning. I actually use a free product called 7zip, so I can extract to a new folder directly from the right click menu on an XSN - if you have trouble still, that may be another option for you.

    Hilary,

     I don't have the ability to change anything but the File Name and the Opens With portions of the form. I would send a screen shot, but this forum doesn't allow attachments. I appreciate your help.

    Thanks!

    If you click Reply you'll see an options tab - you can attach a file there.
