Feasibility of using InfoPath + SharePoint Online to link up with Local SQL Server

    Dear all,

I am complete new in InfoPath & Share Point.

We heard that Share Point Online can do worklfow for approval and data collaboration.

Below is our wish list. Hope the wish can be made it to real.

Our case is, we needour sub-contract factory to provide the sub-contract price for the items and would like to use InfoPath & Share Point to simplify the input process.

Also, we also want the whole process to be done by email.

For example, send an email to the sub-contract factory with item information, photo, etc with data from local SQL server and form generate by InfoPath.

Then, the factory input the price in the email through the form and reply to us.

The replied email with the price data can be integrated back to our SQL server.

For the software, we had implement Office 365 with Share Point Online, Exchange Online and InfoPath from Office Professional Plus.

    Can this flow be possible?

    Ivan

Hi Ivan - welcome to InfoPath and SharePoint,

We have built a solution for your scenario and have several enterprise customers using it. It synchronizes the data from a SharePoint or Office 365 site down to a local DB. The tool is inexpensive. Here's a link to a summary video we did a couple years ago that shows the SharePoint sync to local SQL: http://www.qdabra.com/en/products/DBXLClient.aspx. Current version is v2.7 and we've added several enhancements in the last two years - for example, you do not need IIS on the client and we have improved synchronization to scale to larger data sets.

To submit the forms locally via email ... I think the new version of Office 365 (ShP 2013) lets you configure Exchange to support external emailing of forms to a library, and if so, this would be simple to setup. The other option would be to email to a central account and have a "gatekeeper" (who has O365 permissions) open and submit to the form library.

You could add an Azure database to this configuration to allow for centralized storage, or you could have everyone running the DBXL Client standalone tool.

The per machine license fee is $995 but we do offer significant discounts for bulk purchases (5 or more).

Please let us know if you're interested - I'd be happy to arrange a demo.
