Hi!
I'm a noob.
I am designing an InfoPath 2010 web form that submits to a SharePoint 2010 List. The template I am using was generated by SharePoint, if that matters. I want a special kind of validation: I wish to cross-reference the instances (Value .) of a group/repeating field (multi-choice/plain list control) to previously submitted instances (Value .) to determine & exclude (weed out) identical instances from another selection control.
Scenario:
5 terms entered to a plain list control, repeating field. Say:
-
business
-
strategery
-
pickle
-
triangle
-
salmon
As each is entered (or another trigger, such as an action rule on Submit form, or another custom button) it is cross-referenced to the previously submitted forms by way of the column, same field, such that the instances of pickle and triangle have already been used once and an error is returned saying as much. "The term pickle is already in use." & "The term triangle is already in use." The net result is a warehouse of unique instances, or terms.
-
business
-
strategery
-
pickle
-
triangle
-
salmon
The next form submitted might include the term strategery: which would result in an error because it was already recorded.
Since they are words/terms/phrases, I would think converting the value instances to text (strings) might be part of it.
In fact, I'd like to do this with URLs as read-only text, too.
I've tried more than a few workarounds. It's time to consult the experts!
