Userprofileservice does not work in browser form

Hi All, I am stuck with an issue that we can't find a good solution to...

I have an infopath form where I want to be able to retrieve the current user and insert this into a person picker field. There are plenty of tutorials which have instructions on how to do this such as http://blogs.microsoft.co.il/blogs/itaysk/archive/2007/04/05/InfoPath-_2D00_-Get-the-current-user-without-writing-code.aspx

When previewing this form in Infopath I get an error when the data connection is loaded which says:

The SOAP response indicates that an error occurred on the server: Server was unable to process request. ---> Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object.

And if I publish this to a Sharepoint site and run it as a browser form I get a 5566 error which in the logs shows:

Exception Message: The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error. Server was unable to process request. ---> Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object. The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error.

However, if I run this published form in Infopath filler, the connection works fine and I don't get any error messages.

I have been searching for days but can't really find any solutions. Does anyone know how to fix this?

We love using Infopath and have just bought Qdabra tools, but little things like this are so frustrating.

    Thanks in advance.

Which authentication methods are you using on server?
And what are the versions of Infopath and Sharepoint...?

    Windows NTLM authentication.

    InfoPath 2013/2010 and SharePoint 2010.
