You said that you use an Active Directory web service so that you can retrieve their dept, phone, email, location. You check group membership and control permissions within the form base upon their groups.

How do you do that?  I see that I can pull the user's username.  I know that I can create a list in Sharepoint and manually add the user's username into that list, then compare the user's username pulled from the rule in Infopath against the user's username in the data connection to the list in Sharepoint.  If they match I can determine whether they have rights.

But I want to be able to filter a list in Sharepoint based upon information given in Infopath. i.e. A user enters their name in Infopath in the format that matches that of "modified by" in sharepoint.  Then I can use a filter 'Name' is equal to [Me].  But I get the error message saying that Filter value not a valid text string. Help!
