I have a workflow on a form which starts when a document is added to a library.

The worflow sets a unique reference number (RiskID) for each newly created document, based on - http://ghamson.wordpress.com/2011/03/09/unique-alphanumeric-list-ids-via-spd-workflow-and-calculated-columns-sharepoint-sp2010-in/

The workflow emails a link of the document onto another person who opens the form up in a new view. i.e. (Approver)

For the life of me I can't get the unique reference number (RISKID), from the SP column to show up in the new view (Approver) in a required field. Yes, it's a data connection, but I can't seem to set it up correctly

Any ideas?

When you're setting up your data connection, make sure that your RISKID field is checked off so that the column data is pulled into your InfoPath form.

Thanks the form now 'pulls' in the default RiskID number, i.e 0000 not the calculated value of a new form, added to the library.

OK, The key seemed to be that on the initial form you need something that will be unique to that form only. I had a filename field, which when submitted to SP, changed the format of the now() value from _ to : I used the translate function, so as to change _ back to :. The field could then be referenced as part of my main data connection.
