Date Field Make Read-Only and Custom Drop Down list

    Hi

My system is set up like this, and the technologies i'm using are:

    • SP list linked to Access DB with linked table in Access for each sub site list
    • SharePoint 2010/InfoPath 2010/Access 2010

I am trying to make a date field and other fields read only. I can see the read-only tick box for other fields but cannot see it for date field.

I read about conditional formatting for making read only but instructions are vague at best on some sites. I can't see how to do it. all it seems you can do is add conditional rules for the data not set properties for the complete column.I made all text fields read-only but it still lets me write in the fields. I may like to add that my default view is datasheet view but I edited it in standard mode in infopath.

Also I currently have a drop down list of 6 dates I want users to see and have this list linked into a look up field from an excel sheet, which has the dynamic date values.

When i pick the date it disappears in the SP list and is not copied tothe Access linked table; it also displays dateand time, and I want rid of time. Is there any way to make a custom drop down list with dates in it? If so I would appreciate instructions how to do this.

    Thanks

You could use a Calculate Value control and in the properties of the control, set the Data Source to the xpath node that holds the Date field. Then in the Results section (below the Data Source on the properties page) select the Format of Date or Date / Time. If you select Date / Time, you'll need to add one Calculated Value for Date and one for the Time, and then set the format accordingly.

    Hope this helps.

     Hi Scott

Ok I already have the Date Field so is the calculated value assigned to the date field. Not sure how you do that. When I click calculated value in controls ribbon under home I get insert calculated value dialog box and if I press fx I get insert formula box

So can I ask how to I get to the properties of the control? What do I set in the dialog boxes described?

I'm really new to this so assume i know nothing

Update: Ok so what I did was right-clikc the field with the dates look up and set it to a calculated value field. Then I am trying to edit the xpath to use trhe dates column. The dates column is a seperate list so I wonder how to do that in the xpath code?

update2: I tried that and it never worked. Everything I try doesn't seem to work. My current set up is I am tryingto view in datasheet and in this form none of the changes work. Even simple formatting changes.

    Thanks

Sorry about not clarifying a couple of steps. After clicking on the fx, click on the left button "Insert Field or Group." From there you can navigate to the field from the Main Data Source.

    Hope this helps.

     Hi

the thing is the data source is the date field that is causing the problem so I am not sure if that is right. I thought that the data source should be the seperate list from excel I should be using but this is a seperate list. I put a few updates in my previous post as well relating to this.
