SharePoint 2010 List Form - Secondary data source

I have a list form that I have customized in InfoPath, which works as expected. Now I'm trying to add a secondary data source (SharePoint List). When I add the field from the secondary data source to the form, it inserts the fields in a repeating section. This is okay, but I want to filter the results based on a value from the primary data source (VolunteerID). Is this possible? Thanks, Jason

    Hi Jason,

Yes, just double click the control for the field in the main data source that you want to set and use the fx button to insert the field from the secondary data source. Click the Filter button on the dialog and add a condition that selects the field from the main data source that you want to compare against.

    Easy as Pi!

     Hi Patrick,

I'm having a bit of trouble with this. On the form I select the VolunteerID textbox which is from the main data source. Then i edit the properties, and select the fx button. Next I insert a field from the secondary data source, which is the VolunteerID field. Then I click on filter, and add a new filter. This filter compares the values of the VolunteerID field and makes sure it is equal to the VolunteerID field in the main data source. When I publish the form back to my sharepoint list, I am still getting all of the VolunteerID's populated from the secondary data source.

    Thanks,

    Jason

You have done this correctly, but you are using a filter for the item you want to display which is confusing. VolunteerID is the filter condition, right? So you should select a different field in the secondary data source (the data you want to display) and then filter this using the VolunteerID. Hope that makes more sense. Just a little more... :)

Isn't there a way to create a dataset so you can pass a parameter and have the form filled for a record (that may have many, many fields) with one server call rather than having to set up each field individually? Am I correct in assuming that each calculation will be a separate server call?
