"Infopath has encountered an error. The operation failed." error when launching VSTA with InfoPath 2010

    Hi,

I'm using Office 2010. I have Visual Studio 2010 installed as well although I'm not sure if that is necessary for using VSTA in Infopath.

I want to use code behind for my Infopath 2010 forms. Initially, I was previously getting an error stating I need VSTA installed when lancing Code Editor. However, after enabling VSTA from Office 2010 setup, everytime I try to launch Code Editor or anything related to VSTA in Infopath, I get the following error:

"InfoPath cannot start Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Applications

Infopath has encountered an error. The operation failed."

This happens regardless of what form templated code language I select, what type of form I am creating, or where I save the form. I searched all over the net, but I can't seem to find anything related to this error.

    Thanks.

    Update:

I was able to fix this. I initially tried uninstalling and reinstalling .NET interoperability for InfoPath from Office 2010 and then tried uninstalling and reinstalling Office 2010 completely but to no avail. Also tried uninstalling and reinstalling all .NET frameworks as well. No success. I went into the directory where the actual VSTA app resides (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE) and discovered I coud launch vsta.exe with no problems. I renamed the "Microsoft Visual Studio 8" directory, went back to InfoPath, and tried to launch Code Editor again. This time, Office Setup opened and reinstalled VSTA (populating a new "Microsoft Visual Studio 8" directory). I went back to InfoPath and tried to launch code Editor again - no more error!
