Newbie Question: What are Changing, Validating, Changed events?

    Hi all,

Can someone please explain the 3 different types of programming events. When I right-click on a text-box, and select "Programming", I see:

    1) Changing Event...

    2) Validating Event...

    3) Changed Event...

    What do these mean?

    HELP!

    Derek

Re: Newbie Question: What are Changing, Validating, Changed events?

    From MSDN:

    Public event

    Changed

Occurs after changes to a form's underlying XML document have been accepted and after the Validating event has occurred.

    Public event

    Changing

Occurs after changes to a form's underlying XML document have been made but before the changes have been accepted.

    Public event

    Validating

Occurs after changes to a form's underlying XML document have been accepted but before the Changed event has occurred.

Changed is the event I most often use - it fires when the field's value has been accepted & after the Validating event has occured (thus, it fires last). Also worth noting, it is the only event that fires when the DOM is not read only. So, if your code is going to change a value in your XML, it needs to be on the Changed event.. If you follow the links to the individual events:

During the Changing event, the form's underlying XML document is placed in read-only mode.
During the Validate event, the form's underlying XML document is placed in read-only mode.
