Single record in a repeating table.

I am trying to develop a web-based interface that is rather complicated.  I have a form that contains four optional sections.  Each optional section is visble or hidden depending on a button pressed, with only one optional section visible at a time.  It functions muchj like a tabbed control.  Within each optional section is a repeating section bound to a secondary data source which is an .XML document (with multiple records).  I want to show only one record at a time (in the repeating section) and use record navigator buttons to navigate through them.

I based the record navigation buttons on this: http://www.bizsupportonline.net/infopath2003/sequential-db-table-record-navigation.htm  The buttons are replicated in each optional section, with unique 'CurrentRecordNumber[dataname]' counters

Any assistance in restricting the display to a single record, and then how to navigate through them would be appreciated.

I've received alot of help here and I am impressed the way things are progressing...This is actually turning out to be a good exercise!

That blog post seems to describe precisely what you're asking about here - only showing one row of a repeating section at a time.  So what is it that you need assistance with?

Apparantly, either because I am using a secondary data source, or because the repeating section is contained in an optional section, step 14 in that link does not applay, as there is no "[Filter Data...]" button so I can set the position() function.

(I'm guessing it's because I'm linked to a secondary datasource.)

I am looking for help either how to select a single record when using a secondary datasource, or how to implement the Position() function for a repeating section contained within an optional section.

Also, step 15 of that link references the query using the data connecion: Main Connection.  How will that work with the data coming from a secondary data source?

    Hi Tom,

You know it's a real shame that S.Y.M. Wong isn't here to help people who use her site:

If you wish to contact me regarding paid InfoPath consulting, which includes modification of any of the InfoPath/SharePoint solutions I have written about on BizSupportOnline or elsewhere on the Internet to suit your needs, please note that I am currently not taking any new clients on board.

If you have a question about one of the tutorials in my InfoPath 2010 book and therefore wish to contact me, you can send an email to the contact email address listed under the Support section in the Introduction chapter of my book.

Qdabra is here to help you. In fact, I sent you a meeting request for today and waited for 45 minutes but you must have been busy. At any rate, good luck with Access and Biz No Support Online...

We're here for you for free in this forum and we'd love to show you a better approach than what you see on that other forum.

    :)
