Updating a form template with new data fields

We are making improvements to one of our InfoPath form templates. When we update the form and republish it to the same location we are coming across an issue. When the user opens a form that was created with the old template, they are not seeing any of the new data fields that were created and exist in the new template. Is there a way to force the old forms to contain the new data fields when they are opened?

Let me know if you have any ideas or if you need a more detailed explanation.

    Thanks,
    Patrick

    Hi:

You need to look under tools / form options / versioning -- make sure the form is set to upgrade existing XML.

If it is, there may be an issue with the latest version it is set to upgrade, but first make sure that it is set to upgrade.

     Hi Patrick,

Have you found a working solution to your issue?
I would be interested to know what it is, as I have the same issue. I do have the form set to upgrade as Hilary has suggested.
I am using 2007 though, so there, might be a slight difference.

I have deployed the following workaround for now:

I am looking for a better solution for future upgrades.
