InfoPath Dev

I'm creating a form in InfoPath to be linked to SP.  I have created a control for expanding text box and it works fine - half the time.  I made the control expand to show all text and that works.  However, the control is used multiple times in the form, and half of the fields expand and half don't.  What am I doing wrong?  I'm a newbie to InfoPath so please explain in terms I can understand.

One node in your xml schema can have multiple controls to show its contents in the form, but each control's settings must be configured individually. I would begin by checking that the settings on all the controls match. If they do, please let us know and we'll see what else could be causing this. Good luck.

The control I made says "Control shares duplicate data", which would stand to reason because I copied/pasted the control to other parts of the form (so that it would autopopulate once the first one is filled in).  I did check every control that was pasted, and they're all exactly alike in configuration.  It's odd that some expand and some don't.
