I need some guidance with using related lists with SharePoint/InfoPath 2010.
I have a list (client) which contains a visit field and another list (actions) which contains a varying number of rows which also contain the visit value. I want to create an InfoPath form which allows me to specify a client using a drop-down and then using the visit value from the client row display all of the actions rows that are associated with that visit.
I have created a form which does this, but the only way that I have found to be able to set the value of the query for the actions rows is to set the value of the drop-down list control to the visit value. I am doing exactly what is illustrated in the book InfoPath with SharePoint 2010 HOW-TO by Steven Mann.
If I try to use anything other than the value of the drop-down control to set the query value for the actions list I do not get the correct value. It seems to be that I should be able to set the query value of the actions list from the visit value of the client list, but this does not work.
Yes, I know that I have a functioning solution, but I can already forsee us needing to display data from another list which is not related by the visit column. Since I am only able to select related data based on the value of a control, and since I can only set the value of the control to a single value, I can see that this solution will not work for me. Also, I just want to know; why can I not use the visit value from the client list? TIA.
