Problem using more than 255 characters in a RTF textbox

    Hi all,

First post in here. I have a rather mysterious problem. Let me try to descripe my problem.

I have a RTF text field in an Infopath 2007 template. In this field people can write a summary.

I have created an Excel Template where I can import the different fields from the XML file created in Infopath. My problem now is that if people write more than 255 characters, the import to Excel fails and writes #######... in the corresponding text field in Excel.

I can solve this problem manually after importing the data by changing the format of the field in Excel to Standard instead of Text. By doing this the normal text will be shown.

So I figured if I just made the field in Excel a Standard format field from the beginning it would solve the problem. But everytime I import the data the format changes to Text even though I have told Excel to keep the format :-(

I am running out of ideas so hope any of you can help me

     /Kasper

    Hi Kasper,

Are you exporting directly from InfoPath to Excel or from SharePoint to Excel?

Also, after you "fix" the issue in Excel does all the text actually show?

Actually I dont export directly. I am saving the formular as a "source file" I think its called in english (in danish "kildefil"). This makes it into an xml file which I attach to the excel file.

Then I can bind the fields from the Infopath formular to fields in Excel. When I import a filled out infopath formular it then fills in the corresponding fields in Excel.

When I fix the issue manually in Excel it does show all the text. So its a workaround, I just dont get why Infopath/Excel wont accept that the type of a field stay as I want. In a lot of other fields you get to choose whether or not to keep normal format or the one Infopath is sending.

The 255 charachter limit causes problems in SharePoint, Access and other MS products.  This may be a bug in Excel actually or it could be by design for some reason.  Glad you have a workaround though.
