    Can't bind Contact Selector

    Hi All,

I'm having a problem getting the Contact Selector control to work.  This is the first time I've tried it and I've followed the directions here (http://blogs.msdn.com/infopath/archive/2007/02/28/using-the-contact-selector-control.aspx) but with no luck.  Here's what is happening.

I can go through that tutorial, but when I get to step 3 where you drag the data over and then select the Contact Selector, the options I have look the same except that the contact selector isn't listed as an option (I have Section with controls, Section, Optional Section with Controls, and Optional Section).  I tried adding the Contact Selector control to the form and then binding it from there (right click and select Change Binding), but I get the message "Contact Selector cannot be bound to the selected field or group."

When I originally did "Add or Remove Custom Controls" I made sure to select everything the same way it was in the tutorial.  I did the same thing when creating the group in the data source (I copied/pasted the text for the groups and fields to make sure there were no typos).  I've also used "Add or Remove Custom Controls" to remove and add the control again and I've recreated the data source groups and fields a bunch of times.

If anyone has any ideas or can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it!

    Re: Can't bind Contact Selector

    Hi,

Make sure that the type of Contact selector and the field which you are trying to bind should be same. Otherwise change field (to which you are trying to bind with Contact selector) type same as contact selector.

    Re: Can't bind Contact Selector

Just experienced the same error.  To fix it, first check if your datasource groups and fields are correctly defined

    grpContactSelector (non-repeating group)

      Person(repeating group)

DisplayName (field), AccountId (field), AccountType(field))  (Fields can be elements or attributes, doesn't matter, but make sure fields are under Person group).

Then, follow the remaining steps exactly...

      1. Remove the control both from the form and the control pane via "Add or Remove Custom Controls" link at the bottom of the controls tool box window.

    2. Add the control again via the aformentioned linke, but follow the steps carefully:

Select "ActiveX Control" option, Press Next

    Select "Contact Selector", Press Next

Select "Don't include a .cab file" option, Press Next

Select "Value" a binding option, Press Next

From the FIRST DROPDOWN (not the checkboxes), select "Field or Group (Any Data Type)" choice, Press Next.  Do not literally select a data type from the checkboxes, with the first option ("Select Field").  This is the error, I did.
