Changing one type of control to another type of control

    Hello,

I have a InfoPath form containing dropdowns. I am upgrading the form template by changing the dropdown control to radio button. But the data in the form created with the old template is lost. Please suggest a solution to make the old forms work with the new template. Thanks in advance.

Changing the control shouldn't change the schema. If you change the data source (i.e. schema) you will have problems with old data. Make sure you just rebind the control. Don't change the data source.

    Patrick,

Thanks for your reply. Let me explain you my scenario in detail. As I told I am changing the dropdown to radio button. At the same time I am also adding new fields to the data source. But adding new fields worked for me with other forms where I didn't have any dropdown to be changed. It was just that i added new fields in those forms. But here when I open my form 2 things happen

    1. The form will be opened in the read view according to my logic, where the previous data is lost.

    2. I have a unlock button to take it to read write view, again the data is not retrieved there.

    So my question now is

    1. Is it a problem with the selected value in the controls ?

    2. Can you please explain me in more detail how to rebind the control ?

Re: Changing one type of control to another type of control

    Hello Patrick,

As you mentioned there will not be any problem if we change the control from one type to another. But the only mistake i had done was

    1. In the option button the selected value was "1" and "0"

    2. In the dropdown, the value was "Yes" and "No"

So the value should match in both the controls, so that there will be no data loss.
