    Web Service basics

I am trying to create a very basic form that will be published to SharePoint and will most likely only RECEIVE data from a MSSQL database. Authentication-wise, I would like the querying to be done by a single user, so I will not need to configure a GetUserProfile piece.

Could anyone here point me toward a good resource for getting started? Thanks!!!

    Some ideas:

    1. Have you tried searching this site? I have seen Web service coding examples from time to time in many of the posts.
    2. MSDN and BizSupportOnline.net also have coding examples. MSDN has labs and S.Y.M. also has some very good content here.
    3. How many tables will you be pulling from? If it's just one table and simple, you should look at BCS in SharePoint 2010.
    4. For more complex queries and a more scalable service, Qdabra's DBXL Web service can be installed and configured to query and pull from a database in <30 minutes and it's very inexpensive especially so since you only need it for query features. That might be the lowest cost option in terms of time, headache, etc.
    5. qRules plugin with the SQL query command is a non-Web service option but may require admin deploy for browser based forms.

    Good luck!
