    Fields/Columns not displaying

I have been working on a checklist which has been created in InfoPath 2010 and published on SharePoint 2010. We're piloting it for general deployment. Now one of the consultants has created a number of checklists for a live project.

There are two columns called Region and Client. The standard view is 'group by Region, then Client'. And on the forms the consultant has filed in, the region and client fields are both populated.

But there are no entries showing up in the Region and Client fields in the SharePoint form library  - or rather, where the fields ought to be, is blank. If I switch on Inline Editing, there's no field showing there.

I am looking at the InfoPath templates, of which there are two versions. Both of them have the same Region and Client fields and they're filed in the same way. I haven't changed the names of those fields. I'm publishing the templates as Site Content Types. One thing I did do differently yesterday was omitted those two fields from the 'fields listed below will be available as columns in SharePoint', as I reasoned they had already been created and there was no need to keep those entries there. Following this issue, I have reinstated them in this dialogue and re-published the site content type, but the Region and Client entries are not showing up.  I tried the Re-linking command, to no avail. Now if I create a test entry it has the same problem i.e. the entries in those fields are not being displayed in the SharePoint list.

I have test files from 9 Feb in which both fields are showing. So something has happened - either something I have done, or some other factor - which has caused this to occur. Any insights or tips appreciated as there is no support where I'm doing this.

    Re: Fields/Columns not displaying

One more relevant fact - if I look into 'add site columns' under List View, I notice that the Client and Region columns appear more than once.  If I import the duplicates, and then by trial and error work out which of the identical column/field names is the right one, the Client and Region entries will start to appear. But I really don't like the look of this, as it seems to me the whole data structure might have become corrupted. It seems to me that if you some columns are imported from InfoPath into SharePoint in more than one content type, then it duplicates the column names.

    Re: Fields/Columns not displaying

I have discovered that these fields/columns have been duplicated on the site level, as their names appear more than once. In other words, if I go to Site Settings> Site Columns>Microsoft InfoPath, then I see Client and Region columns are repeated three times. So this is clearly a duplication or corruption. I am just wondering if I delete the duplicates, leaving one instance of each, whether I might cause further problems.

I think probably what will happen is that the existing forms will continue to display but the Region and Client info will have to be re-entered as there is likely to be a loss of correlation between the fields and columns.

In the library where you have activated the content type, if you look in the library settings, it should show you what content type is associated with what column - does that help at all?

Thanks Hilary - Since writing these posts, I've discovered that this is a notorious InfoPath bug - if you google 'InfoPath 2010 Duplicate Columns', there are many blog posts about it, including quite a few on your site here. SO I have informed my manager that we have hit a roadblock, and am going to try and find someone inside the company with the technical skills to edit the XML according to the instructions here http://henry-chong.com/pro-tip-infopath-2010-and-mysteriously-duplicating-promoted-fields
