How to store infopath data in list ???

    Hi Folks,

I have one requirement. I need to show user one GUI (say infopath), user will enter data in GUI. Data will be saved in list (not in library).

Problem with infopath is that, infopath get save in library and not in list.

If not with infopath, is there any other option like via javascript/HTML which can satisfy my req's?

Please let me know. Thx in advance.

    - Chintan

    Thanks,
    Chintan

You're right; InfoPath does not have built in support for writing to a list. However, inject your form with qRules and you can accomplish this! for more, please read this. Good luck!

    Hi ErnestoM ,

Thanks for your reply. But, this tool will cost me couple of bucks.

Can you give me some other alternative?

    Thanks,

    Hi Chintan,

If you are using a ShaRePoint List form, you can save to the list. Otherwise, you need to write code. qRules is the cheapest solution out there to solve your problem if you need to integrate your InfoPath Form in a Library with a separate SharePoint list. We don't make any profit from it. The cost of $199 covers our cost. This tool helps you since it supports the "fabulous fifty features" that everyone needs but aren't included in InfoPath. One of those features is SharePoint integration. Sure, you could write code or get someone to do it for you but that's going to cost you more time/money than qrules.

By the way, this forum's free (and we spend lots of time helping people).... we don't write code for every question these days because it's not cost effective (we need to stay in business too). That's why we developed qRules. It's good for you, good for us, and good for InfoPath.

    :)

Hi Patrick, Thanks for this information. However, there are couple of queries on qRules tool. I hope you can reply. 1) Can i submit data from single infopath form to multiple list ? 2) Do i need to buy one license per developer or one license per server that the developer would use (e.g. would I need a license for the dev environment and the prod environment or only one license for you to use?) 3) Do this functionality (Form To MultipleList) is avail in free trial version? Please let me know on this. Thx
    Thanks,

    Hi Chintan,

Here are the answers to two of your questions:

#1. Yes, you would just have two different set of rules, one for each list.

#3. Yes, please download the trial from Qdabra.com and try it out. The free trial runs until march 15 which should give you time to decide if you wish to purchase.

    Good luck!

Hi ErnestoM, Thanks for your reply. I have downloaded trial version and using it in Virtual PC. However, I am getting below error when clicking on Extract Schema button: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.ExceptionHandling.ExceptionPolicy.GetExceptionPolicy(Exception exception, String policyName, ExceptionPolicyFactory factory) at Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.ExceptionHandling.ExceptionPolicy.HandleException(Exception exceptionToHandle, String policyName) at Qdabra.Utils.RemoveDirectory(String sDirectoryPath, Boolean bRecursive) at Qdabra.FormCode.ExtractXSN() at Qdabra.FormCode.btnExtractSchema_Clicked(Object sender, ClickedEventArgs e) at Microsoft.Office.InfoPath.Internal.ButtonEventHost.OnButtonClick(DocActionEvent pEvent) at Microsoft.Office.Interop.InfoPath.SemiTrust._ButtonEventSink_SinkHelper.OnClick(DocActionEvent pEvent) I have used default Expense infopath form. I have created new Custom List. I also specified correct Site URL and had given correct custom list. Also, please reply to my 2nd question. Plz advice.
    Thanks,

Could you attach a screenshot of the form with its fields filled out? You can attach via the Options tab when you reply. Thanks.

    Hi Chintan!

    2) qRules is a per developer license; we also provide an enterprise license for all developers in your organization. You can email QSales (at) Qdabra (dot) com if you have specific questions or need a formal quote but both products can be purchased directly from the Qdabra Web site.

    Best regards!

Re: How to store infopath data in list ???

    Hi Chintan,

I'm sorry you're encountered this error. I'm wondering two things:

    1. What version of .NET do you have installed?

    2. I see the tool says (in the status bar at the top) that it is working offline. If you fix that such that the tool is not offline, does the error disappear?

If you have access to another machine, it might be worth trying on it, to see whether it is an issue specific to the VM you are using. Thanks.

Re: How to store infopath data in list ???

Hi ErnestoM, Thx for your reply. Error is same when i convert the form from offline to online. My Virtual PC is using VS2005. I tried on development server also, but i am getting error clicking on "Get Sharepoint lists" button. Error says: "Could not connect to specified URL. Please check sharepoint site URL". I am giving correct URL though: http://servername/sites/practice/site. I do have admin access on development server. I tried my production server URL and it worked. However, I want to try on dev. server and virtual PC prior implementing this tool on prod. server. Pls advice.
    Thanks,

Re: How to store infopath data in list ???

Hi ErnestoM/Patrick, Sorry, My site was down yesterday; so i was getting error. Now, i am trying this tool on my development server. I am reading PDF file from below URL for "SubmitToSharePointList Command " instruction: http://www.infopathdev.com/files/folders/qrules/entry49216.aspx I am bit successful with all steps. However, I am stuck on 22nd step. I do not found "Command" field to which below instruction is given in value field. "SubmitToSharePointList /submit=ShPSubmit /mapping=mapping /id=my:id" One Query: Do we need to inject XSN file to "qRules injector" before using XSN file to this tool? If you are aware of this, then pls let me know. Thx
    Thanks,

Re: How to store infopath data in list ???

    Hi Chintan,

I'm a bit confused. Is the command working on your production server? If it is, then there must be a server issue causing the failure on the dev server.

The Command field is in the QdabraRules secondary DOM which is present after you have injected qRules into your form.

You can get a free hour of support with your qRules purchase if you need our help to troubleshoot the server issue. Thanks.
