    Xml files opens in IE instead of infopath.

    Hi,

    When I click my xml file instead of opening in Infopath it opens in internet explorer.

    I found that the file with .xml extension is associated with IE, I modified it to be xmleditor, now the file opens in infopath.

    The file association changes because of some upgrades or installations on users' pcs.

    I thought if we have the following line in the .xml file it should open the file in InfoPath.

    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <?mso-infoPathSolution solutionVersion="1.0.0.0" productVersion="11.0.6565" name="urn:MyBrickForm:MyCompany" PIVersion="1.0.0.0" ?>
    <?mso-application progid="InfoPath.Document"?>

    Can you please help me resolve this issue.

    Thanks
    Praveen.

    Hello Praveen,
    Please follow these steps inorder to open file in InfoPath instead of xml:
    1. Go to Run -> Type regedit
    2. In Registry Editor -> Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
    3. Expand HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT search for 'Protocols'
    4. In 'Protocols' search for 'Filter'
    5. In 'Filter' search for 'text/xml' and rename it as '_text/xml'
    by giving '_' it will not recognise the xml file and will open in Infopath form

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Shailaja,

    I renamed the _text/xml filter, the xml file still opens in Internet Explorer, instead of InfoPath.

    Also, I am opening the xml file in two different ways.

    1. Double clicking the file.

    2. Clicking on the Link Button on the web page. (I am writing the xml file to the response stream with content type set to "application/ms-infopath.xml".)

    Before renaming the text/xml filter, I was able to open the xml file in InfoPath using the first method.

    After renaming the filter the xml file opens in IE, no matter how I open it.

    Thanks
    Praveen.
