    Position() bug?

    Hi all,

    Has anyone tried using the Position() as the default value for a textfield under a repeating group? Well surprisingly it doesn't work. But for an expression box it works fine.

    Does anyone have a solution for this?

    Well, it should work. Look at this sample from Greg:

    I have used the Position() function in repeating group and have come up with unexpected results. But I will admit I was probably doing something wrong. The article Franck put up should help.

    I'm having a simular problem with position()
    I'm using position() to indicate the number of a repeating table, therefore each repeated table see position increment by 1 which is great.

    I a print view of the document I want to retain this numbering however all I get is a sequential number.

    e.g. In a repeating section called Country, I have a repeating section called Site and a repeating table within that with order details.

    I don't understand your problem here, Taffman. You say it's working great and then you go to another view and it's different? Are you performing any actions on the node while switching views? Are you using an expression box or actually storing the numbering a node?

    The primary problem is that the position() function give the correct position in an expression but always returns "1" in a text box.

    So the expression box that gives my my position value, I need to display in another view in a printed version of the form. However the expression box I recreate elsewhere always displays "1". Driving me crazy...

    OK panic over, I've discovered what I'm doing wrong here.
    The expression box needed to be in the same group of nested groups to display the correct value. Obvious when I think about it now ;-) Thanks to every one for your help.

    I think that's why I was so confused. Congratulations on figuring it out!

    I am having the same problem. I am creating a trouble ticket log where the first row must alway contain the action of opening the ticket. I am trying to set the field, actiontype, in the first row to always be "Open". I first tried to make a rule to set the value of a field with a condition position()=1, but this is not a valid expression. I next created a field with a default value of position(), but as stated in earlier posts, the value of the field would not increment at all.

    At wits end
