InfoPath 2007 Adding restrictions to what users can type in

Hello, I am currently stil trying to set up a timesheet for our company. From the help I received here, i got 90% of it done, now just one last thing. I want to restrict users from being able to type into certain boxes. For example, there is a checkbox which is listed for 'Approve', i want only the users manager be able to touch that checkbox and not the users themselves. Is it possible to do this? Or no? Also wanted it to go to their managers email the moment they submit the form, is this possible as well?

    Hi,

Are you using User Roles in your form? You can read more about User Roles here:

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/infopath-help/CH010059828.aspx

Here's a previous post that may be helpful:

Clay has some interesting posts you should read as well:

    http://claytoncobb.wordpress.com/2009/06/14/user-roles-in-browser-enabled-forms/

    http://claytoncobb.wordpress.com/2009/07/19/infopath-user-roles-in-browser-enabled-forms-using-groups/

As far as emailing the manager, that should just require a data connection that submits via email. You'll need to obtain the manager's email and store it somewhere in the data source. Set the rule to email the manager to only execute when the appropriate user role (submitter?) is submitting the form.

    Hope these help!

TY ErnestoM, that's exactly what I needed.

However, after saving it with the user roles added, it no longer opens, it says to contact system admin, and also about permission issues...

Exact error is: Infopath cannot create new, blank form.
Infopath cannot open the form. To fix the problem cotact system admin.

    Form template: file:///C:\Documents%20and%20Settings\user\Desktop\New%20TimeSheet.xsn
Your user name or group membership cannot be verified because your security settings do not permit it.

Any idea what the problem is?

So the form is published to your local drive? Or are you publishing it to a network drive? To SharePoint?

Does the form have data connections to a server? If so, is that server Local Intranet?

The form was previously being published to sharepoint but cancelled that as i didnt know how to create a workflow with what i needed.

So now it's published on a shared network drive where everyone has access to it. My boss was able to open it, but i wasnt even though i was the one who created it...im also admin.
