    Drop down lists

    Hey all,
I am pretty new at this. I am setting up a form with a drop down list. I have set up the display name and a corresponding value. The problem I am having is when you choose a particular display and save the form, the corresponding value is not what shows up when reopening or printing the form, the display name is what shows up or prints. How do I make the value come up and/or print? Is this a rule or some sort of formatting that must take place? I have looked in a few books but cannot seem to find the answer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Frank and welcome to the forum!

You can use an expression box to display the value of a drop-down menu, but if you always display the drop-down it will always match the display name to the value and show it instead.

I had a similar problem and I used a hidden text field to store the value and only had the display name (as both name and value) in the DDL. When the display name was chosen in the DDL the hidden text field would then look up and store the value. Then I could use the DDL when I needed to reference the display name and the hidden text field when I needed to reference the value.

This is probably a poor way of doing things but it worked for me.
