    Excel and Infopath

Each day I receive a file that I can get in either Word or Excel format. It has information in it that I currently re-type into Infopath forms. I'd like to import one of those file types into these Infopath forms. Is there a way to do this and which application file type would be the easiest?

    Thank you, Will

Hi Will and welcome to the forum!

I am sure Excel would be the easiest to convert to XML. I just tried saving a worksheet as an XML Worksheet via File -> Save As -> XML Spreadsheet. After you do this, you should be able to add this XML document to your InfoPath form as a secondary data source and then populate from there. Even better would be to define a custom merge that would transform the "XML Spreadsheet" that Excel saves into the appropriate fiels for InfoPath. However, custom merges can get hairy.

I hope this helps, please let us know how you do it if you get it to work!

Thanks Matt, I'll look up custom merges and secondary data sources and see if I can get that to do what I need.

Is there a way to import single records/rows from an Excel XML file into a set of related Infopath forms?
