Retrieving SQL information in a browser-enabled form - is a web service necessary?

I'm getting information from a SQL db into a drop-down and publishing the IP form into Sharepoint, which works fine but I have a couple questions. 1. If I try and have the form open as a web page, it says "An error occurred accessing a data source." When I have it open in Infopath, it works fine. Is there a fix for this? 2. When it does properly open, it requires I enter login information for the database. While this isn't a problem for me, I don't want the average user to have this information. Is there a way around this? From what I read online, setting up a web service might resolve #1. Is this true?

Hi Nick with a browser based form your friend is going to be web services.  Also, if you ever want to submit data from a browser form to SQL you have to use web services in MOSS 2007.

We have a product called DBXL (Database Accelerator) that should solve your problems, our Beginner version will query the SQL data for you: http://www.qdabra.com/en/products/DBXL.aspx

We offer a trial version on our website.
