    Submitting form through e-mail

I am quite new to Infopath; this question might be really easy to solve but I cannot work it out. I am obvioulsy not that advanced. :(

I created a form which gets submitted through e-mail. In the Data Connection Wizard I defined all the recipients for this e-mail; some are based on field content from the form itself; so far things were quite easy and straight forward.

But there's one field where an additional email address can be entered so the submitter can send a copy of this form to this specific address.
This field is not a required field for this form, so it can be empty.
My problem now is that if I just put the field into the formula for the data connection defintion I get an error message when the field is empty when submitting the form.

I assume I need to add some kind of function or formula to verify this field for the submitting process.
I tried using a formula to verify the following: if the field has some content put it into "Cc" if it's empty continue sending the form. The infopath helppages don't provide much information on how the available formulas...so I tried "true()" and "Boolean", but in fact I am not really sure how the function needs to be defined to get the required result.

So can somebody point me in the right direction?

    many thanks.

Hi -- as long as you have an email address for one of the fields you are using for the To, Cc or Bcc for the email submit, you should not get this error.

Are you using a formula to generate the list of email addresses for your 'To' field? Do you always have at least one email address for To, Cc or Bcc?

On simple solution may be to use the field that may be empty for a Cc address field.

    Re: Submitting form through e-mail

I have defined e-mail addresses for "To" and the content of a required field for "Cc"..that all works well.

Now I want to have an optional field where users can enter another e-mail address manually and when submitting the form it will get send to this email address as well. I tried just entering the fieldname into "Bcc", but as soon as you leave the field blank in the form and try to submit it comes up with an error. I think(?)  I might use some sort of formula or function to get this happen.

Here's the test form I was using. I was able to fill out any one of the three fields that are used in my email connection, and leave the others blank and successfully send the email. I'm using IP 2007 -- are you using 2003? Perhaps that is the difference. If you are using 2007, try the sample template I used. Right click the link to the file in the header and Save As to save the file locally. Right click the local copy and select Design to open in design mode and preview.

I wonder if there is a behavior difference. Here is the same template in 2003 format. See if you get an error when you leave any of the fields blank and try to submit. If you do -- it is a difference between the versions....

    Re: Submitting form through e-mail

I just tried to submit the form without filling out all fields... and I get the same error:

One of the required values for submitting the form is missing. The value is created using the following XPath expression: my:Cc
If you know the value in the form that specifies this value, revise it and try again.

So looks like a differnce btw versions.

    Thanks for your help.
