Getting Unique values from SQL and Sorting

I've tried all the things that I have seen posted for filtering data into unique values and the one thing that I see is no metion of an external data source like from share point or from SQL.

I'm pulling data from a SQL server into a drop down and need to get the unique values and sort them. This selection then drives the next drop down which does the same thing.

My field name is Category and it's on the root of the page so it shoudl be a simple xpath statement but i can't seem to figure it out.

    any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi,

In your Tools \ Data Connection Screen, if you "Modify..." your connection to your DB, did you try to "Edit SQL..." to modify you statement?

I thought about that but i have 3 columns from this table that i'm grabbing data. if i filter it at the source, i won't have the data available in the form.

The option there would be to create 3 data source connections and pull from each one that's sorted and filtered but how would I setup the form to pull from the correct datasource based on a previous drop down selection?
