    qRules FilterOwssvr

Hello, I've added the xml (receive) data connection to the form successfully and tested that it returns data when added to the form using a repeating table control. I have a button to query the data connection and populate the repeating table when clicked. And I have another button query the list but filter it. So I tried both FilterOwssvr /dsname=FilterowssvrPL /filter=Name /value=Quote and FilterOwssvr /dsname=FilterowssvrPL /filter=ows_Title /value=SharePoint but it didn't filter the repeating table. I also tried publishing the form but it didn't help. Thanks, Jimbo Alba

    Hi Jimbo,

If I understood correctly, you've been able to succesfully use the command. Is this correct? What was the successful command?

Then, when you try some filters, the command does not work. Do you get an error? Does it populate data without filtering?

    FilterOwssvr /dsname=FilterowssvrPL /filter=Name /value=Quote

    FilterOwssvr /dsname=FilterowssvrPL /filter=ows_Title /value=SharePoint

I can help guide you and we can use the document "How to use the command FilterOwssvr" as a reference.

    Hello Ernesto,

What I managed to do successfully is the creation of (receive) data connection of XML.
    http://<server> /_vti_bin/owssvr.dll?Cmd=Display&List={7E7F1A64-0C89-4BCF-8237-A88C139A1243}&XMLDATA=TRUE

And I know it's working because it returns data as seen on the repeating table on the form. However, I wanted to filter the return data using this command
FilterOwssvr /dsname=FilterowssvrPL /filter=ows_Title /value=SharePoint.  But the repeating table still returns all the records.

I have a  button to query the FilterowssvrPL data connection and three buttons to execute the qRules command
    FilterOwssvr /dsname=FilterowssvrPL /filter=Name /value=SharePoint
    FilterOwssvr /dsname=FilterowssvrPL /filter=ows_Title /value=SharePoint
    FilterOwssvr /dsname=FilterowssvrPL /filter=@ows_Title /value=SharePoint

I'm not sure which command is correct as I don't know what goes there either the SharePoint list column name or the column name on the xml data connection.
All three commands gives an error:

An error has occurred executing the rule. Usage is: FilterOwssvr /dsname=Data Source Name /filter=SharePoint field to filter on/value=Form field with filter value

Also, I'm following "How to use the command FilterOwssvr" from the beginning.

     Thanks,

    Jimbo Alba

    Hi Ernesto,

I was able to make it work on a drop-down list.  I'll try to put more info when I can.

    Thanks

The FilterOwssvr is a great tool to filter drop-down lists but it also works on repeating tables.  If you plan to use qRules remember that these commands are case-sensitive, this includes the command parameters(in FilterOwssr the parameters are dsname, filter, and value), and values passed on these parameters.

To know what the FilterOwssr filter parameter accepts open the secondary connection that you created for FilterOwssr on the Data Source pane and look for the attributes of z:row element.

In my case the z:row attributes are

    1. ows_DocIcon
    2. ows_Modified
    3. ows_Required
    4. ows_ID
    5. ows_LinkFilename
    6. ows_On_x0020_Record
    7. ows_Editor
    8. ows_Title

Just remove the ows_ prefix, e.g. ows_Title => Title, now you can pass Title on the filter parameter and remember it's case sensitive.

Thanks for your feedback! I will take a look at documentation and make sure it includes information on this.
