Read-only error when submitting a form previously submitted by a different user

Hi all. First I have to say thankyou, because although this is my first post, Hilary, Greg and Patrick and others, you've all been incredibly helpful in your many posts I've read before now.   Unfortunately I've finally encountered something no-one seems to have posted about yet - not that I can find any way.   Here's my problem: I'm using MOSS and Infopath 2003, and my forms are submitted with the same filenames by different users.   If User A submits File XYZ.xml, he can submit to that same filename without issue. If User B tries to submit XYZ.xml after User A then he gets an error message about permissions. The funny thing, if he clicks ok and then tries again, it goes through just fine!   To give a little more detail, when you launch the blank form it displays a repeating section which is bound to the same data connection as I am submitting to. I'm wondering if this is my issue, perhaps because I am trying to write something which I also have open within my form.   The only other thing I have noted is that if User B directly opens XYZ.xml after User B has previously submitted it, he can submit without getting the error. In other words the error only occurs when trying to submit a blank form over an existing form previous edited by a different user.   I'm totally stumped on this one - has anyone else encountered it and/or can you make any suggestions for a fix?   Thanks in advance!   Dave.

Hmm. Apologies - not sure what happened to my formatting there!

In InfoPath 2007 and 2010 the Submit data connection has a checkbox for overwrite existing files. Do you see that in InfoPath 2003? I honestly can't remember, but go to the data connection, click modify and step through it. Might be as simple as that.

Infopath 2003 has it too, and I always have it checked. I have some similar forms, where one user opens and submits, then another user opens and submits, nut there are no issues there. I've worked out that the key difference is in the other circumstances people are opening the specific entry they intend to update before they update it. What I'm doing in my current form is basically saying that I want to submit to a file named, for example, "Monday", and I don't care if the file exists or not because each Monday the information inside corresponds to the Monday of the current week - so if it's not there then create it and if it is then overwrite it. What I don't want to have to do is open up the record for Monday in order to make my changes, because in fact there are numerous files for Monday, each with the day pre-fixed into the filename. Doing it the way I am doing it allows me to have a list of my files, and to hit one of three status buttons for each file, which instantly submits to show that, for example, 'file X has arrived for Monday'. I do have a couple of plus points. The issue doesn't occur for people amending a status for which they were also the previous person to amend it, and for the most part it will be the same person per each day of the week. But when one is off and another use has to do his file checks, he gets an error pop up for every change, and so will the original user next time he tries it. The other potential plus is that we're *finally* moving on up to MOSS and Infopath 2010 at some point in the next couple of months, so if it's a peculiarity of Sharepoint (which I'm inclined to suspect, given the way it first denies permission and then grants it) hopefully the issue won't be present in 2010.

To be honest, I've never heard of your issue and we've been looking at InfoPath issues for ~10 years now. I really think it's a config issue. There were issues with VISTA and Windows XP with SharePoint. It could have something to do with your Windows OS. Are you sure you have the latest SharePoint service packs?

I'm guessing that we could figure out this issue for you but it might take an hour or two and require a Live Meeting to debug. If you want to do that, we'll need to charge you for one support incident. You can go to Qdabra dot com's support page and buy a single support pack.

Sorry I can't be more clairvoyant in the forum.
