    update database question

The form I made takes user input and it inserts into the mssql database and emails an address with the attached form. This is working fine but the problem is that I have two buttons 1) for the original submit 2) the final approval

The person gets the .xml file from the email and opens it in infopath and then puts their name and the date for approval.

my problem is that I need to know how inside of infopath (without using vb/jscript) can I have the database update the columns approved_status from a default 'no' to 'yes', appoved_date and approved_by on hitting this button. I did not see anything about this from googling or searching forums. I would prefer not to use any scripts because my experience so far with infopath is that everything I thought I would have to code is already built in so I am hoping their is some built it way for this.

    Thanks for any replies

    Hi tgo,
    Welcome to the Board!

You can set rules on button to set the values that you want and submit the data back to the DB.

Note: Rules that set data should come before the submit.

    Re: update database question

Thanks for the reply and after poking around somemore i got it to update the row with a .js file. Now the problem is that when I submit in the preview in design mode it updates instantly, but when I publish it and try it timesout. Whats the difference in how the form is handled while in design mode and in its published state?

    Re: update database question

Ideally there shoudn't be much difference. But you can try increasing the time for the timeout. By default for a DB connection it is 30seconds.
