    Missing Field or Group

I've edited a form I'd previously designed.  When I try to submit a completed version of the updated form I get an error message that tells me a field or group cannot be blank.  I've searched the form and I cannot find the field the error message refers to so I might disable the requirement for the field to be completed.

Please help direct me to a solution - Thanks!

    Hi:

In the InfoPath menu bar, try "Tools / Go To Next Error". If the field in question isn't on the form, click the details button on the dialog box, and it will give you a message about what field is causing the problem.

    Thank you Hilary -

I did what you recommended before.  The error message tells me the form contains validation errors that are not in the current view. It also states any error is marked with a red asterik or red dash box.  No asteriks or dashed boxes are visible on the completed form and the field or group listed in the details as as the problem field is not visible. The same error message tells me if the error can't be found in other views then there may be a problem in the design. The form did not show this error before I edited it and all I did was add some new fields.  I don't remember ever creating the field name that appears to be causing the error but it is similar to a field name I added when I edited the form.

You'll want to open the form in design mode and check for the field that is mentioned in the error. Look in the data source task pane at your main data source and see if you can find the field.

It may be marked as 'cannot be blank' yet isn't on the form where the user can fill it out, which can cause errors like this. Also, you may be setting the value of the field with a rule or a default value that is invalid.

When you find the field, drag it onto the form somewhere and preview the form to help you trouble shoot the issue.

Problem solved!  Thank you.  I could have sworn I previously checked the data source task pane without any success. This time I figured it out with your assistance - much appreciated!
