    xpath displaying as ..

    I'm new to InfoPath so please forgive my ignorance.  I'm trying to use the count function to sequentially add a number to a repeating table but I'm seeing a .. (dot dot) when I select the group (see attached).  Then it gives a message: "Node-test expected. count(preceding-sibling::-->..<--) + 1".

    I've gotten it to work on other forms.  Not sure why I'm seeing it here.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hi:

    Instead of selecting the group using the Insert Field button, just type in my:ActivityDetail (this assumes you are using the default 'my' namespace) after the ::

    count(preceding-sibling::my:ActivityDetail) + 1

    Whoops! I missed something:

    count(../preceding-sibling::my:AcitivityDetail) + 1

    Hi Hilary,

    Thanks for your fast response!  I tried all of the following but none worked.  Thoughts?

    • count(../preceding-sibling::my:ActivityDetail) + 1
    • count(../preceding-sibling::ActivityDetail) + 1
    • count(preceding-sibling::ActivityDetail) + 1
    • count(preceding-sibling::my:ActivityDetail) + 1

    I noticed when I put the above directly into the Default Value it won't let me use whole interger as the data type, so I changed it to text.  Not sure if that has anything to do with it...

    I should have been clearer! I meant for you to enter it in the Formula Editor.... not the Default Value. So click the fx button and try there.... and you should be able to change your data type back to int.

    Hillary,

    Thank you so much!  It worked!
