InfoPath Dev

Hello all,

I am using SharePoint 2003 and InfoPath 2003 (I know they are very old version of software - but I am still using them).

I would like to have a sequencial number for each submitted form, so I decided to use ID number of the form from the SharePoint Document Library.

I created a secondary data connection to retrieve the ID from the SharePoint list which the form is submitted and created a temp field with a default value retrieving the ID number from the Data Connection.

it seems like working fine when I test it right after creating the data connection and preview screen but after I close the form from design pannel, I try again. I do not receive the right ID number on my temp field - it is set to "1" again.

And if I modify the connection without changing, it works a couple of minutes until close the design mode form and preview screen.

After close the design screen, it does not work again. - very strange!

Would you please explain why it happens? I am very frustrated after spending a long time to set up.

Any comments, advices, and helps would be very appreciated.

Might depend on how you set it up, but you haven't mentioned those details, so it's hard to know.  Did you develop your solution similar to what I showed in my blog on this topic?

However, I am not sure what kind of setting you mean. Is there any special setting for data connection? I created the connection through the wizard same as your blog post and I created a solution similar to your post.

The problem is that the data connection (retrieve ID number in your blog) does not retrieve the ID number.

It seems like working just right after create/modify the connection through the wizard from preview screen of the design panel. After closing the design panel of the form, the connection does not retrieve the ID anymore - ID number is always "1".

Update: I tested again with data connection to SharePoint list, It retreives the right number of ID. It does not retreive the right number of ID from Document Library where InfoPath forms stay.

Would you please let me know what setting I have to check?
