    Pulling Data from sharepoint List

    Hi all,

I have a sharepoint list with 3 columns (A, B & C)  & a web based infopath form, with three controls (1 dropdown & 2 text).  The dropdown is populated from column A in the list, how do I get the two text fields reflect the corresponding data from columns B & C when an entry is selected from the dropdown?

    Any pointers appreciated.

    Thanks

    Stu

    Hi there,

The data connection to SharePoint will download the entire list to your form. The data is available there as a secondary data connection. Once a user makes a selection in the dropdown, you use InfoPath filtering to retrieve the correct column/row combination from the secondary data connection.

    Hi,

Firstly, many thanks for your replay, and apologies for the following dumb questions!

Can I achive this in a web based form?

the articles on filtering that I've seen only seem to support a very limited set of controls, I have two text boxes that I want to populate based on what the user selects in the first drop down.

Are there any how-to articles out there? (this is all quite new to me).

    Thanks

    Stu

Yes, this is simple to do in browser forms:

    1. Create a text box for the dropdown.  Drag to canvas, change to dropdown, bind to external data source, specify the folder and then value.
    2. Create the other two text boxes and put them on the canvas
    3. Set the default value of each text box to equal the relevant node in your secondary data connection but with a filter that matches the secondary data connection node that you used on the dropdown list - set them to equal

I have a blog post that shows this part. It is focused on a different issue, but the concept of auto-populating fields is the same:
