Infopath sharepoint - checkin and checkout

    hi,

I have an infopath form and am submitting it to sharepoint. It is working fine as per the requirements. However, I have a problem here.  The problem is, when the form is submitted, the forms shows as checked out to the one who submits it. I would like to check it in for the first time without any user intervention.

My Versioning settings are on because I want sharepoint to ask users to checkout and Edit when the user clicks on already submitted form. Is there anyway of doing it?

    Thanks

    Krishna

You can check-in with an SPD workflow.

Do we have any articles posted on this functionality. Please advise.

    Thanks

Not that I know if.  It's just a simple action when using SharePoint Designer.  You connect to the site, create a workflow, tell it to run on a new item creation, make an action that checks in the document.  I don't think you need an article for that, but you can let me know if you have any problems while building it.

Hi, As you mentioned, I created workflow for automatic checkin. However, when I create the new item in the list, it is still checked-out. And then when I look at the designer workflow on sharepoint, it says workflow started. And there is no change in the status and there is no error. Am I missing something here?

I have content approval to 'Yes'.

I don't believe the workflow can really start until the document is committed to the library.  It does not commit until it has been checked in once, so I'm not sure you can use the SPD workflow to perform the initial check-in.

Re: Infopath sharepoint - checkin and checkout

What I see happening in my environment is that when using the data connection "submit to sharepoint" there are random cases where SP see the document still being open on the submitters station.  Therefore, the next approvers in the workflow can't edit the form because they get a ReadOnly message.   To verify this I enabled the forced checkin/out feature.  When i did this I was able to prove that when InfoPath submits the form it's left in a checkout state.  I can't find a way to force it to check in so the workflow runs.  I read in MS docs that workflow does not run on a document that is checked out so until I manually check the form in the next step in the workflow won't run.

any ideas on how to get Infopath to properly submit and do a checkin?
