    Email notifications

My bosses gave me the task of building a Sharepoint sight for the company. My first task is to build a quoting workflow. I am new to Sharepoint, but I managed to import the Excel spreadsheet they used for technicians to submit request for quotes, into Sharepoint and working for the most part. There is a little tweeking I need to do, but the one thing that is keeping me from my next stage is the fact that I can't get the submit button to send an email to the inside sales rep, notifying them of a new quote request. Exchange is working, I can send emails back and for between mailboxes. I have Sharepoint setup with the correct SMTP settings, but it won't send the email. I have all this built in a test enviroment. Can anyone give me some direction as to what I am missing?

It's "site" btw - just an FYI.

Are you saying you imported the Excel spreadsheet into an InfoPath form, and then you published the InfoPath form to a form library so that when clicking "new" you get the form template?  then, using submit, you are able to submit that form back to the form library?  All of this works?

At what point did you build a workflow to send notifications?  you say the email isn't working, but how did you set up an email to be sent?  Did you create a submit to email data connection?  We need details on how you built this.

As an aside, what I do is create a workflow with SharePoint Designer (free) that is attached to the form library and sends notifications with data from the form and with conditional logic for who it should go to and when.

I assume you have tested the smtp functions using commant prompt and telnet to the smtp server via port 25 from your sharepoint servers , and then subsequently allowed relay on the smtp server for you sharepoint servers.

Check timer jobs within sharepoint, but that is based on if your workflow is sending the mail.  The 12 hive log files and event viewer on server can give additional information, checking iis logs does hurt either.

Also if you are using workflow from sharepoint designer, make sure that you are not getting blank variables or else the workflow will break.
