InfoPath Dev

Hello,

I'm new to Infopath (2007) and would like to test a web service.

I've found this free webservice http://www.webservicex.net/periodictable.asmx?wsdl to get back the atoms table "GetAtoms".

When I try this I've got the following error "A required data source is not available. Some form elements, such as drop-down lists, may be blank."

Does anybody know how to solve this ?

Worked fine for me but that GetAtoms function returns an XML data as a string so you'll need to write code or use qRules to convert it into the main data source. Too bad they didn't just return the correct schema for the WebService - then you could just pull it into the view as structured XML...

So, did you wrote that code for it or did you just check that web service ?

Is there a way to test/check the data source ?

If it's not too much to ask, can you describe all the steps you've done, maybe I did something wrong ?

Hi again,

1. Start InfoPath
2. Design a Form
3. Blank
4. Tools->Data Connections
5. Receive Data -> Web Service
6. Enter URL for your service
7. Choose GetAtom -> (fill in sample and default values if they exist) -> Next -> Next -> Close
8. Click Data Source in TaskPane
9. Select dropdown where Main shows up and choose GetAtom
10. Expand the data nodes
11. Drag nodes over to view
12. Click Preview

Result: XML is passed back from GetAtom as a string.

I followed all your steps and when I press 'Preview" I get the following message

'Connection to data source failed' and the buttons 'Work offline', 'Connect' and details

after pressing 'Connect' I receive this error message

'There is a link between infopath and a data source but no data is received.  The form is loaded without the requested data'

when I press on 'show details' I get the following error message

'the query can't be executed for the following dataobject : GetAtoms'

'the query can't be executed in infopath'

'Access denied'

but, when I press 'work offline' it seems to be working fine, in my return field I get all the Atoms

Any idea's on how to solve this ?

Is there a way to 'debug' this ?
