Wow, just got this error on a new client environment where I have already verified all the normal settings.  This recent thread also got this error, but they couldn't enable the form for browser-compatibility during publishing while I am able to do so easily: http://www.infopathdev.com/forums/p/7715/28212.aspx#28212.

I even went to Central Admin and switched to Form View so that it doesn't require Session State, but I still get that error.  Any ideas?

Wow again.  It did not even dawn on me that it was possible for the client to not have created an SSP, but that was the case.  No SSP = no session state.  I'm creating the SSP now and will associate the web app with it, then I expect it to work, but we'll see...

Yes, it is now working.  Superb.  I also can now use the UserProfileService.
