    troubleing in custom task form

    Hi,All

infopath2007 + vs2008 + MOSS2007   I wrote a simple squential workflow that inculde init form and task form

it ran fine ,workflow can completed.  but I have found a problem in using InfoPath custom task forms.

After I complete the task and enter in any custom data on the form, if I click back on the task link again, the form will open blank.  In other words, it will not persist the data that I entered previously.  It correctly passes the data to the workflow and the workflow will continue on as expected, but if the assignee opens the same task again, the data they entered is not there.

why ?  who can tell me how to fix that ?

        Thanks in advance

I'm sorry Rachel and Ravi, but I have no idea. Perhaps, if you explained your problem with more details we could understand more and have some ideas. We don't use the Custom Task Form though, so unfortunately, we are not well positioned to provide help on this. Maybe someone else in the forum can help out.

    Hi Patrick:

    Thanks for your reply.

Here is what I am doing. I have sequential workflow, where I am having multiple tasks. 1). I have InfoPath form published to a SharePoint form library. Users fill this form and submit it to a SharePoint library. A workflow gets triggered automatically. 2). Once the workflow starts, a custom task is created in the Task List. This task form has approve/Reject and user can add comments. Once the user completes this task, a new task is created to another user. 3). Now, if the user (who completed his task) comes back and opens the completed task, the data entered in the task is lost. I want to retain his activity (like users comments etc) in the task form and also disable/remove the submit button. I have enabled browser capability for this task form and published it to a network location with Submit to Host option. I have mentioned this template id in workflow.xml file and my workflow picks it from there.

I tried to switch views by adding rules in the form options. But no luck. I am bit new to InfoPath. And it looks like my task form is not able to retain his data when I submit the form.

Any idea/hints would be a great help!

Re: troubleing in custom task form

    Hi Ravi,

Thanks for the detailed response. My guess is the same as yours - task form probably doesn't allow you to see comments from other tasks. Our comment history template part lets you see comment history in one InfoPath form, but it is not the same as the default task form in SharePoint workflow. I'm guessing you want to do this using standard SharePoint workflow. You might be able to if you customize your InfoPath form to populate data from your custom task form (by querying it when your form opens). This may require some custom programming. Take a look at our qWSSP Web Service for a codeless way of querying SharePoint lists from InfoPath. Assuming the custom task form is a list or InfoPath form, you can query it and pull the data into your existing InfoPath form to display comment history. We can help you with the details to make this happen, but it will likely require some support hours. Please let me know if you are interested. We have competitive hourly rates.

    Best of luck,

    Patrick

Re: troubleing in custom task form

the solution is to use ItemMetadata.xml as a data source. What this does is make your form look for corresponding data fields from the workflow.  So what happens is, the first time the form is opened, ItemMetadata won't find anything to map so the fields will be blank. But any future time you open the form, it will fill the values in if your Workflow has those fields. The key is to set the ExtendedProperties of your task item's field to the current value you want, inside the workflow in the Create Task activity (since this is the activity that initializes your infopath form).  That will be handed off to the Infopath Form. If you need to update a field, you call the Update Task activity and set your extendedproperty and it will get passed to your form.

Look up ItemMetadata.xml. If you need more detail I can give it to you.

An example of setting the Extendedproperties is like this:

    createTask1.TaskProperties.ExtendedProperties["Field1"] = Field1Value;

I did the same as you told created updatetask activity and assigned task Properties to the activity and tried to Update Extended Properties.

Still No Use. Please send the solution in detail
