    Submitting Data to SharePoint Library

    Hello,

I have create an InfoPath form that submits the data to a SharePoint Library.  When I submit the form the (first) time it works correct.  When I test it another time by submitting the form it gives me the following error:  An error occurred while the form was submitted

Not a really helpful error.  I'm curious if there is something that needs to be turned on for submitting multiple forms??  Has anyone seen or heard about an issue.

Any thoughts or help would be wonderful.

    Thank you,

    Jessica

You need to configure your "submit" data connection to submit to a specified filename that is unique each time.

    Hi Jessica,

Yes, ensure that you have a unique file name created upon submit. A good way to do this is to use the concat() function and concatenate two fields together or use the now() function which grabs the date and time stamp. Let us know if you need a walk-through.

Re: Submitting Data to SharePoint Library

Sorry that it took me so long to let everyone know what I did get this issue figured out.  I had my SharePoint Submit Data Connection set up to use the default name "form" and I did not check the box for Allow overwrite if file exists.  Well of course it would work submitting the first form but it wouldn't overwrite the second form.

In Data Connection I just modified my SharePoint Submit to incude an expression on the file name:  concat(projectname, "-", submitter)
Exactly what the above post suggests.

Works perfectly.  Thank you to everyone who responded to my question.

     Thank you,

     Jess

Jess, I would recommend not putting your concat function directly within the data connection, because that causes it to be recalculated each time you submit.  This is ok if the data you're concatenating _never_ changes, but if it does, then your title will change at times.  It's best to create a filename data element (field) in your form, and create a rule that sets the filename field to the concatenation string you prefer.  That way, it only gets set ONCE (based on your submit rules and conditional formatting), and then you set the submit data connection to use the filename field as the filename for initial submit AND for subsequent submits.  That way, the filename is set once and never has a chance of being changed unintentionally.
